Shock wave therapy useful for stress fractures: Scientific American

This blog and podcast is dedicated to the use of music and sound in the field of Health, Healing, and Wellness.

Coming from a medical family, and being a "natural" health care practitioner for 14 years, I have a broad range of training and interests.

Here’s a more "medical" application of sound for healing purposes:

Some athletes develop stress fractures that are resistent to healing, and it sidelines them for months, or cripples their careers.
This can be very stressful, especially, when the athletes are young kids and teenagers.

Often participants between 13 and 22 years of age in baseball, basketball, soccer, or marathon running
wind up with stress fractures of the leg, pubic bone, ankle or foot.
Some athletes with chronic stress fractures fail to heal after traditional medical or surgical therapy.

A non invasive technique = Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) may turn out to be effective way to treat resistant stress fractures in athletes.
ESWT uses sound waves to stimulate healing.
